Play’n’Learn refreshed Te Kōhanga Reo o Nga Pihi O Te Purapura Pai with custom furniture, defined learning zones, and culturally aligned design elements to improve flow, supervision, and tamariki-led exploration.
Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Reo Aroha
Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Reo Aroha partnered with Play’n’Learn to deliver a culturally inspired interior fitout that strengthens kaupapa Māori learning through custom joinery, meaningful visual identity, and thoughtfully defined learning spaces. The design introduces clear spatial organisation while maintaining open visibility throughout the centre, creating an environment that supports connection, supervision, and everyday learning.
Key fitout outcomes:
- Custom birch plywood barriers and gates featuring kōwhaiwhai-inspired patterns to reflect cultural identity throughout the learning environment
- Defined activity zones created through bespoke room dividers, helping organise learning spaces while maintaining open sightlines for kaiako
- Integrated gate systems designed to provide safe movement between areas without compromising visibility across the centre
- Natural timber finishes combined with vibrant blue accents to create a distinctive and welcoming interior environment
- Curved layouts and soft corners incorporated into joinery elements to encourage flow and ease of movement throughout the space
- Purpose-built furnishings that balance functionality, durability, and cultural expression within everyday learning areas
- Open-plan spatial design supporting both group activities and independent learning opportunities
- Custom design features that reinforce a strong sense of identity and belonging for tamariki, whānau, and kaiako
The result is a cohesive, kaupapa-aligned environment where cultural design elements, custom joinery, and thoughtful spatial planning work together to support tamariki learning, strengthen identity, and enhance daily practice at Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Reo Aroha.
