Ka whakaako rātou i ngā waiata, ngā karakia, ngā hīmene me ngā mōteatea o Ngāti Porou ki ngā tamariki.

Te Kōhanga Reo o Iti Noa is in Elgin, Gisborne. At Te Kōhanga Reo o Iti Noa, children are immersed in the Māori language. Kaimahi use a variety of methods that encourage children’s language development. They teach Ngāti Porou songs, karakia, hymns and moteatea to the children. Due to a long waiting list, whānau has worked with Play’n’Learn to improve their facilities.

Iti Noa’s lead Kaiako, Kristi Brown, worked with Rawiti from Play’n’Learn to capture their vision, and te marautanga Maori (curriculum). Play’n’Learn then designed an environment that captured the spirt of the place, and created connections to hapu, to iwi, and to whanau.

Te Kōhanga Reo o Iti Noa’s learning environments now draw out the innate curiosity of tamariki and helps kaiako install a love for playful learning. Above all, the symbolism inherent in the new space promotes and encourages the use of te reo Māori.
