New Centre Fit Outs

Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Puna O Te Aroha

Project Overview: Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Puna O Te Aroha, committed to nurturing the Māori language and traditional practices, partnered with Play’n’Learn for a comprehensive fit-out. The goal was to create a learning environment that reflects the Kōhanga Reo philosophy, ensuring safety, cultural integration, and versatility.

Design Elements:

  1. Functional Storage Units: These units serve as both storage and classroom dividers, crafted with bamboo backs. The natural aesthetic complements the birch plywood shelving, creating a ‘village-like’ feel.
  2. Cultural Integration: Custom furniture pieces feature engraved Te Reo Māori, and Atua printed panels on the walls align with Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Puna O Te Aroha’s Kaupapa.
  3. Wharenui-Inspired Retreats: Spaces for cultural engagement and versatile play, reflecting traditional Māori meeting houses.
  4. Soft Squab Seating: Versatile seating options for both kaimahi and tamariki, doubling as play surfaces. Upholstered in high-quality patterned vinyl, ensuring durability and comfort.

Play’n’Learn’s Scope:

  • Spatial & Interior Design
  • Custom Furniture Design – Indoor Playspace
  • FF&E Manufacture & Install
  • Education Environment Compliance

Outcome: The project successfully merged traditional Māori elements with functional design, creating an engaging and culturally rich learning environment. The space not only fosters the revitalisation of the Māori language but also meets educational standards, ensuring a safe and dynamic setting for tamariki.
