Te Kōhanga Reo o Ōterepo, Christchurch
Te Kōhanga Reo o Ōterepo partnered with Play’n’Learn to design, manufacture and deliver a new learning environment that integrates practical design elements to nurture Te Reo Māori within a safe and engaging learning environment.
These elements include custom-built furniture with safety features, interactive play areas that facilitate supervision without hindering visibility, and multifunctional spaces that are engaging for tamariki, and easily reconfigurable by kaiako.
Design Elements:
- Dividers with semi-transparent acrylic backs ensure visibility while infusing the space with imagery of native flora and fauna.
- Cultural imagery and language are integrated into the environment through engraved Te Reo Māori on custom furniture pieces.
- Wharenui-inspired retreats are designed for cultural engagement and versatile play.
