Parkway Kindergarten
Parkway kindergarten came to Play’n’Learn looking for ways to enhance their outdoor space, as well as celebrate and promote the cultural diversity within the Parkway Kindergarten community. After working with the Play’n’Learn design team, the kiako at parkway settled on a large custom wharenui and an outdoor fale playhouse.
The wharenui is designed to help develop a sense of belonging to both traditional Aoteraroa culture and to each other. All natural wooden timber, the base is made from Macrocarpa and the roof made from Japanese Cedar which is durable and light, the solid timber floor has slats so water can drain easily. The square shape inside allows tamariki to have a retreat space, and the porch roof provides shade for reading, or napping.
The fale playhouse has been designed with a Pasifika theme to support connections to Pasifika families. Constructed from stained and treated NZ timber, with a natural brustics roof.
