New Centre Fit Outs

Mangawhero Te Kōhanga Reo

Mangawhero Te Kōhanga Reo partnered with Play’n’Learn to deliver a warm, visually rich fitout that strengthens kaupapa Māori learning through thoughtful spatial planning, custom furniture, and purposeful sensory design. The centre layout supports both collective and small‑group learning, offering clear sightlines for kaiako while providing tamariki with defined, engaging spaces to explore, rest, and connect.

Key fitout outcomes:

  • Custom birch plywood furniture and built‑in storage designed at tamariki height, encouraging independence, choice, and easy access to resources
  • Clearly defined learning zones created through low shelving, soft seating, and carved feature panels, maintaining open visibility across the space
  • Central open floor areas with curved soft seating to support hui, storytelling, and collaborative learning
  • Purpose-built wharenui-style forms and carved panels that reinforce cultural identity and offer retreat, role-play, and quiet engagement spaces
  • Integrated sensory elements including tactile wall features, soft flooring, and colour zoning to support regulation and exploration
  • Natural timber textures balanced with vibrant colour accents and artwork to create a welcoming, stimulating environment rooted in whakapapa and place
  • Outdoor fitout elements including timber whare structures and sand play areas that extend learning beyond the classroom and strengthen indoor–outdoor flow

The result is a cohesive, kaupapa‑aligned learning environment where layout, furniture, and cultural elements work together to support tamariki development, kaiako practice, and the daily life of Mangawhero Te Kōhanga Reo.
