Play’n’Learn refreshed Te Kōhanga Reo o Nga Pihi O Te Purapura Pai with custom furniture, defined learning zones, and culturally aligned design elements to improve flow, supervision, and tamariki-led exploration.
Shine Montessori
Shine Montessori partnered with Play’n’Learn to deliver a calm, intentionally structured fitout that supports Montessori principles through order, accessibility, and child‑led engagement. The centre layout prioritises clear spatial definition, natural materials, and uninterrupted movement, creating an environment where tamariki can work independently while remaining fully visible and supported by kaiako.
Key fitout outcomes:
- Custom birch plywood Montessori furniture scaled to child height, supporting independence, practical life activities, and self‑directed learning
- Clearly defined learning zones created through furniture placement, soft floor transitions, and low storage, maintaining visual openness across the space
- Purpose‑designed shelving, cupboards, and work tables to promote order, choice, and care of the environment in line with Montessori practice
- Central gathering and work areas with low tables and floor mats to support individual and small‑group concentration
- Soft seating and curved bench elements positioned along window lines to encourage quiet observation, social interaction, and natural light engagement
- Feature tree retreat spaces with integrated seating, offering calm regulation zones, reading nooks, and reflective play opportunities
- Neutral colour palettes and natural textures balanced with soft greens to create a peaceful, uncluttered learning atmosphere
- Strong indoor–outdoor connection through large glazed openings, reinforcing freedom of movement and continuity of learning
The result is a carefully balanced Montessori environment where layout, furniture, and material choices work together to foster concentration, independence, and respectful engagement, supporting both tamariki development and consistent Montessori practice at Shine Montessori.
