Te Kōhanga Reo o Hinetearorangi
Ko te Kaupapa a Te Kōhanga Reo he whakakotahi i ngā whānau ki te whakarauora, ki te whakapakari anō hoki i te reo me ngā tikanga.
The purpose of the kōhanga reo is to unite whānau to revitalize and strengthen te reo and tikanga.
Play’n’Learn partnered with the kaiako at Te Kōhanga Reo o Hinetearorangi to refresh their learning environments. The guiding principle used in our design process was the promotion of tikanga and te reo. It was important to kaiako and whanau that the tamariki attending Te Kōhanga Reo o Hinetearorangi felt like they belonged, and like the space was theirs.
This principle lead to a design that is natural, homely, and full of warm wooden tones. From natural birch plywood to hardwood timbers such as macrocarpa, the furniture ensures tamariki and kaiako are welcomed into the whare. Uniquely Kohanga elements, such as the Tohu, as well as custom Maori print designs, ensures a ‘sense of place’ is felt, and that te reo is strengthened.
